G-USA members interested in serving on the board should submit a brief letter (e-mail please) of interest to the nominating committee in care of John Przepiora ( This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it ). Please include a short resume and describe your interest in seeking this position. Anyone wishing to nominate a G-USA member may do so by simply submitting the name of the member and why you feel the nominee is worthy of the position.   The Nominating Committee may also need to recommend members to the Board of Directors for completion of the Directors’ terms which may become vacant from time to time (one such vacancy currently exists). These vacancies will be filled by vote of the Board only and are not subject to election by the full membership.  The By-laws require that candidates must be dues-paid members in good standing and have been a member for a minimum of one (1) year. The requirement for 1 year membership status may, with approval of the Board of Directors, be met at the time the candidate assumes the position of Director. So, regardless of your longevity in G-USA, if you are interested in becoming more active with the board, to run for election now or in the future, or to be considered for vacancies that occur, please respond. G-USA needs energetic members to assume leadership roles and continue the work of building a sustainable organization and world. John PrzepioraNominating Committee Chair This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it __________________________________________________________________________________ GreeningUSA on Facebook! http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=131259257161 You can also join us on Plaxo:  http://greeningusa.plaxogroups.com/______________________________________________________________ in this issue...

Greening in the Newsfrom Syracuse.com LEED Silver for Marcellus Library The Marcellus Free Library is the first building in Onondaga County to receive a LEED Silver rating from the U.S. Green Building Council, according to its architect. Full Story:  http://www.syracuse.com/news/index.ssf/2009/10/green_library_in_marcellus_ear.html ___________________________________________________________________________________________ From EcoGeek.org Solar Projects Battling for Water Construction of renewable energy projects has revealed some serious environmental issues that will have to be dealt with as we speed toward a clean energy future.  We recently wrote about the conflict between land conservation efforts and renewable energy projects in deserts out west.  Land that is ideal for solar energy production is also pristine land in need of protection. In California, a similar conflict is arising between solar projects and water conservation.  Solar farms demand a lot of water, a resource that is stretched very thin in the arid areas where they're being developed.  A large solar farm can use upwards of 500 million gallons of water a year for cooling purposes and there are currently 35 big projects slated for development in California desert. Full Story_____________________________________________________________________________________________ from Syracuse.com LEED Gold for Studio 210 in downtown Syracuse Studio 210 at the Amos has been awarded a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design "Gold ''certification from the U.S. Green Building Council. The Amos Building is a rehabbed historic building situated on what was once the Erie Canal. Clear Channel Communications installed Studio 210 at the Amos in 900 square feet of leased space in the building. Full Story:  http://www.syracuse.com/news/index.ssf/2009/11/amos_project_in_downtown_syrac.html ______________________________________________________________________________________________ Sustainable Communities in the Newsfrom MercuryNews.com Study:  Housing and transport costs burden SF area San Francisco Bay area households spend up to two-thirds of their income on transportation and housing costs, a severe burden that leaves workers with insufficient resources for other basic needs, according to a study released on Wednesday. The report blames "ever-sprawling" development resulting in a growing gap between where people work and where they live. The consequences are both economic and environmental—transportation accounts for 40.6 of greenhouse emissions in the Bay Area, compared to 33 percent nationally, the study said. Full Story_________________________________________________________________________________ Greening Legislation
GreeningUSA urges you to be aware and be involved! from National Public Radio (NPR) Senate Hearing on Climate Bill Heats Up The Senate's Environment and Public Works committee has begun hearings on climate legislation, and the heat in the hearing room is spiraling upward. Predictions of what will happen with, or without, the legislation, range from dire to apocalyptic. Full Story___________________________________________________________________________________________  Time to Renew:  Please continue to support sustainable communities by renewing your membership.
